Spoelstra announces engagement

Heat coach has big offseason

MIAMI – Heat coach Erik Spoelstra had a busy offseason, that included a ring.

Spoelstra announced during an interview with 790 the ticket that he became engaged over the summer.

Dwyane Wade said that he and the team had found out about Spoelstra's engagement in Los Angeles earlier in the summer.

"We gave him a hard time," Wade said. "We're happy for him. Never thought I'd see this day."

Spoelstra and his fiance Nikki Sapp supported Wade on Wednesday night as he was inducted into the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce Hall of Champions.

Wade was joined by Jack Nicklaus and William "Woody" Woodward.

Wade also talked about the new Heat roster and the extra time they spent together in Los Angeles working together. Wade pointed to Chris Bosh as the man who spearheader the effort to get everyone together. He also pointed out the mixture of veterans and young players that make up this year's team.

"When you can add youth like Justise (Winslow) and Josh (Richardson), when you add those  guys into veteran guys, it could be special. We have all the ingredients. We just have to make sure we mix it right. It's going to be a long journey of ups and downs and highs and lows. Hopefully at the end we end on a high."
