MIAMI – The Miami Heat may be looking to make a big move before Thursday's trade deadline.
According to Frank Isola, a writer for the New York Daily News, the Heat are talking with Houston about a possible deal to bring Dwight Howard to Miami in a trade that would include Hassan Whiteside.
After beginning the season as possible NBA title contenders, the Rockets have been one of the league's most disappointing teams with a 27-28 record at the NBA All-Star break.
With Howard's ability to opt-out of his current contract, Houston may feel the need to deal the longtime NBA veteran instead of losing him for nothing following the season.
The same "get something" motive could be in play for the Heat and Whiteside as the center could be in for a big payday during the off-season.
Despite being a huge shot-blocking presence, many believe the Heat would be willing to let Whiteside walk as the team and player have never meshed philosophically.
Howard is currently third in the league with 12 rebounds per game, while Whiteside sits fifth with 11.
