CORAL GABLES, Fla. – A new era is underway in Coral Gables.

The University of Miami started spring practice Tuesday.

It was the first day on the field under head coach Mark Richt.

Richt was excited to get back to his alma mater.

"It was definitely an emotional time," he said. "As a matter of fact, I didn't sleep hardly at all last night. I didn't think I'd be that way. But, last night, I just couldn't. I could get my eyes closed, but I couldn't sleep."

Richt talked about the emotion of his return.

"It's a blessing," he said. "It's an honor. I don't take it lightly at all. It's a little bit surreal."

The intensity was high for the Hurricanes. The players were doing push-ups in the middle of drills.

The goal was to get the players to finish practice stronger so that they can close out games this season.
