His team ran the race with a time of 37.27. Japan won the silver and Canada won the bronze. The US team was disqualified for an early pass, NBC reported.
The gold was the third straight for Bolt and Jamaica in the event, to go along with the individual Olympic triple-double Bolt completed Thursday night in Rio.
Bolt won his third straight gold in the 200m last night and did the same in the 100m on Sunday night.
Not only did he complete his historic goal for the Rio Games, but Bolt's nine career Olympic golds also tie him with American track legend Carl Lewis and Finland's Paavo Nurmi for the most Olympic track gold medals ever won by one person.
Barring a surprising comeback at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, Friday night's relay was likely the last Olympic event for the 29-year-old.
