Hurricanes hoops top recruit arrested after catching man in dorm room with ex-girlfriend

Miami athletic director releases statement

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami basketball's biggest recruit has been arrested after he caused trouble at his ex-girlfriend's dorm building at Florida International University, police said.

Dewan Huell, 19, was arrested Tuesday night on a battery charge.

"I am aware of the incident involving Dewan Huell (Tuesday) night and we are still gathering information," Hurricanes athletic director Blake James said in a statement. "I have very high expectations for all our student-athletes, as I know Coach (Jim) Larranaga does for his team, and any misconduct will be addressed."

According to an arrest report, Huell walked into an ex-girlfriend's dorm room uninvited at the main campus' Lakeview Hall building and found a man hiding in her closet.

Police said he grabbed the man by his shirt collar and dragged him out of the room.

The victim sustained two scratches on his upper chest just under his neck, the report said.

Huell is only the fourth McDonald's All-American basketball player to attend the University of Miami.

He led Miami Norland Senior High School to three state championships.
