Hurricanes swarm Georgia Tech, remain perfect

ATLANTA – The Mark Richt era is off to a 4-0 start.

The young Hurricanes defense came up big as Miami beat Georgia Tech 35-21 on Saturday.

Josephy Yearby got the 'Canes offense on the board in the first quarter with a 27-yard touchdown. Miami led 7-0.

Georgia Tech answered with a touchdown in the second quarter to tie the game at 7.

Mark Walton scored Miami's second rushing touchdown of the afternoon to put the 'Canes up 14-7.

Miami's defense then took over.

Freshman Shaquille Quarterman returned a fumble for a touchdown.

On Georgia Tech's next possession, Joe Jackson scored Miami's second straight defensive touchdown to put Miami up 28-14.

Georgia Tech cut Miami's lead to 28-21 in the third quarter. The 'Canes answered.

Brad Kaaya hit Stacy Coley for a 31-yard touchdown strike.

Miami extended its lead to 35-21.

The 'Canes host Florida State next Saturday.
