HOMESTEAD, Fla. – Jimmie Johnson survived a wild finish to capture the checkered flag at Homestead Motor Speedway that earned him a record-tying seventh NASCAR Championship.

The win means Johnson ties Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt as the only drivers to capture seven NASCAR titles.

Johnson maneuvered his way past a crash with 10 laps to go that knocked fellow Cup contender Carl Edwards out of the race.

And Johnson showed his championship form with a brilliant restart in overtime as he moved into the lead after starting in the back of the pack.
