"Eric Thatcher has a great defensive background," Davis said in a statement. "Having played and coached under the likes of Dave Wannstedt and Pat Narduzzi, he has gained a diverse knowledge of secondary play and schemes. Eric is very detailed and brings a great personality to FIU, which will resonate extremely well in recruiting."

Thatcher comes to FIU after spending the 2016 season at Pittsburgh, where he was a defensive quality control coach at his alma mater.

He also spent the 2012 season as a quality control coach for the NFL's Buffalo Bills.

Thatcher becomes the fourth defensive hire and sixth overall hire since Davis took over.
