Dolphins defeat Bills in overtime Christmas Eve thriller 34-31
Fins do their part to inch closer to playoff spot
BUFFALO – The Miami Dolphins defeated the Bills 34-31 in an overtime Christmas Eve thriller, doing their part to stay in the playoff picture.
All that remains for the Fins to clinch a postseason spot is a Broncos loss on Christmas day.
Miami kicker Andrew Franks kicked a 27-yard field goal in overtime for the win.
Franks kicked a 55-yard field goal with :10 left in regulation to tie the game at 31.
The Bills took the lead 31-28 with 1:20 left in the game when Tyrod Taylor found Charles Clay for a seven-yard touchdown on fourth and goal.
It was a wild third quarter between these AFC East foes.
Taylor found former Dolphins tight end Clay on an 18-yard touchdown as the Bills tried to keep track, trailing 28-21.
Fins QB Matt Moore threw a 6-yard touchdown to Kenny Stills to push the Miami lead to 28-14 in that third quarter.
Bills running back LeSean McCoy made it a one touchdown game with a 19-yard touchdown run that had Buffalo down 21-14 with 6:46 left in the third quarter.
The Dolphins opened the second half with an explosive play as Matt Moore hit DeVante Parker on a short pass, Parker absorbed a hit and ran free for a 56-yard touchdown and a 21-7 lead.
Miami quarterback Matt Moore was intercepted in the end zone by Corey White just before the half.
The Bills got on the scoreboard with 5:06 left in the second quarter when Tyrod Taylor connected with Sammy Watkins on a 38-yard touchdown that cut Miami's lead down to 14-7.
Miami rookie running back Kenyan Drake ran free early in the second quarter for a 45-yard touchdown and a 14-0 lead for the 'Fins.
Ajayi, who finished with 206 rushing yards, broke two tackles and stiff-armed his way for a two-yard touchdown in the first quarter that gave the Dolphins a 7-0 lead.
