Butch Davis holds first spring game as head coach of FIU Panthers

Panthers offense clicks in spring game

MIAMI – Butch Davis took notes, yelled out instructions and gave out high-fives Friday night during his first spring game as the new head football coach of the Florida International University Panthers.

The former coach of the University of Miami must have liked what he saw early in the game out of his offense as quarterback Alex McGough connected with wide receiver Thomas Owens on a long passing touchdown.

Owens, whose nickname is "TO," took it to the house much like his NFL namesake, Terrell Owens.

Anthony Jones also scored a rushing touchdown for the Panthers, who played on a new turf field while also trying out their new high-definition scoreboard.
