MIAMI – Giancarlo Stanton's 40th home run of the season in the sixth inning Friday night sparked the Miami Marlins to a 6-3 win over the Colorado Rockies.

Stanton's 40 long balls leads all of baseball and also leaves him two shy of the Marlins' single season home run record of 42 held by Gary Sheffield.

Gerardo Parra and Nolan Arenado hit home runs for the Rockies, but Miami climbed back into the contest and tacked on some insurance runs in the eighth inning.
