Sparks, Lynx to rematch in WNBA Finals

Minnesota, LA sweep their semifinal opponents

The Minnesota Lynx and the Los Angeles Sparks were so apparently eager for a WNBA Finals rematch that they both swept their semifinal opponents to get there.

After the Lynx swept the Washington Mystics with a 81-70 road win in Game 3 on Sunday and the Sparks did the same in their 89-87 win over the Phoenix Mercury, the rematch of last year's Finals is set.

The series will begin with Game 1 on Sept. 24 in Minnesota.

Maya Moore led the Lynx Sunday with 21 points, while Seimone Augustus had 18 points and 2017 MVP Sylvia Fowles added 17 points and 14 rebounds.

Candace Parker led the Sparks in their victory on Sunday, scoring 21 points, including the winning layup. Parker also had 11 assists, seven rebounds, four steals and three blocks and Odyssey Simms added 22 points for the Sparks, who have won 10 in a row.

The Lynx's victory means the team has reached the WNBA Finals for the third year in a row and sixth time in seven years.

Last year, the Lynx lost the WNBA championship to the Sparks 3-2. That loss came after Minnesota won the title in 2011, 2013 and 2015.

This season, Minnesota lost the season series to Los Angeles 2-1.
