Hurricanes receiver Dionte Mullins 'to pursue more playing time' elsewhere

Mullins voiced displeasure with playing time in series of since-deleted tweets

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Miami Hurricanes wide receiver Dionte Mullins is leaving the football team "to pursue more playing time opportunities at another program," the school announced Thursday in a one-sentence news release.

Mullins had four catches for 53 yards in eight games for the Hurricanes this season, but his future with the team seemed in doubt after a series of since-deleted tweets last weekend in which he voiced his displeasure about his playing time.

"It's crazy how this man can't give me no legit reason why he not playing me," Mullins posted on Twitter.

In another tweet, Mullins wrote, "When you tell a coach about himself, he tells you to leave."

It wasn't clear whether he was talking about head coach Mark Richt or receivers coach Ron Dugans.

The sophomore becomes the second receiver from Richt's first recruiting class in 2016 to leave the program. Former St. Thomas Aquinas High School standout Sam Bruce was dismissed from the team last season.
