FIU hires James Vollono as special teams coordinator

Vollono previously served under Butch Davis at North Carolina

MIAMI – Florida International announced Tuesday that head football coach Butch Davis has hired James Vollono to serve as special teams coordinator for the Panthers.

"James Vollono brings a wealth of experience to our staff," Davis said in a statement. "He has a strong background in special teams play, having worked at Mississippi State and most recently at Georgia."

Vollono comes to FIU after serving as a special teams analyst at Georgia in 2016. Before that, he spent three seasons as an assistant at Mississippi State.

Mississippi State led the Southeastern Conference in kickoff coverage in 2014 and 2015. The Bulldogs also blocked eight kicks in the same span.

Vollono previously worked under Davis at North Carolina, where he served as special teams quality control and offensive assistant in 2007 and 2008.
