FIU TE Jonnu Smith chosen by Titans in 3rd round of NFL draft

Smith becomes first Panthers player drafted since Johnathan Cyprien in 2013

MIAMI – Florida International University tight end Jonnu Smith was selected by the Tennessee Titans in the third round of the NFL draft.

Smith was the 100th overall selection in Friday's night draft and the first FIU player to be drafted since safety Johnathan Cyprien went to the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2013.

The Ocala native started 11 games for the Panthers last season, catching 42 passes for 506 yards and four touchdowns.

Smith's senior season was cut short after his his girlfriend poured boiling water on his head.

Smith caught 178 passes for 2,001 yards and 18 touchdowns in his FIU career.
