Dalvin Cook's younger brother decommits from Florida State

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – The younger brother of former Florida State star running back Dalvin Cook has withdrawn his commitment to the Seminoles.

James Cook, a rising senior at Miami Central Senior High School, announced his decision Tuesday on Twitter.

"After talking it over with my family and coaches, I feel like it would be in my best interest to de-commit from Florida State University," Cook said. "Also, I would like to thank coach Jimbo Fisher and the entire coaching staff for believing in me and my athletic abilities. It's nothing personal just business. #Blessed"

Cook, despite his pedigree, would have battled incumbent starter Jacques Patrick and star freshman Cam Akers for playing time.

Patrick was Dalvin Cook's primary backup last season and enters this season as the favorite to win the job. Akers was the No. 1-rated running back in the 2017 recruiting class, according to ESPN.com, and enrolled at Florida State in the spring.

Cook didn't shy away from following in the footsteps of his brother, who became FSU's all-time rushing leader last season, during an interview with Local10.com in April. Cook said he wasn't intimidated by his brother's success and was going to "go in and work hard from day one."

"It was a great feeling, great stadium, awesome fans," he said. "I mean, I just got attached to it."

Dalvin Cook left school after his junior season and was the first player chosen by the Minnesota Vikings in this year's NFL draft.

James Cook, who initially committed to FSU in March 2016, is ESPN's No. 54 overall prospect in next year's recruiting class. He is reportedly interested in Georgia, which loses Nick Chubb and Sony Michel after this season.
