Heisman Trophy winners to serve as honorary captains for Alabama-Florida State game

ATLANTA – A pair of Heisman Trophy winners will serve as honorary captains in Saturday night's game between top-ranked Alabama and third-ranked Florida State in Atlanta.

Former Alabama running back Derrick Henry will serve as honorary captain for the Crimson Tide, while former Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston will serve as honorary captain for the Seminoles.

Henry won the 2015 Heisman Trophy after breaking the Southeastern Conference single-season rushing mark with 2,219 yards. He was a second-round pick of the Tennessee Titans in the 2016 NFL Draft.

Winston won the 2013 Heisman Trophy while leading the Seminoles to the national championship. He was the first overall pick of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2015 NFL Draft.

Saturday's game at the new Mercedes-Benz Stadium is the first No. 1 vs. No. 3 matchup in a season opener in college football history.

Henry and Winston will join the team captains at midfield for the pregame coin toss. The game begins at 8 p.m. on Local 10.
