Seminoles to host Virginia Tech in 2018 Labor Day opener

Teams have combined to win 8 ACC championships since 2004

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State will open the 2018 season in a nationally televised prime-time game on Labor Day evening against Virginia Tech.

The Atlantic Coast Conference announced the Labor Day pairing Thursday.

It will be Florida State's eighth Labor Day game on ESPN since 2005 and its first at home since 2009. FSU is 4-2 in Labor Day games.

The Seminoles will face Virginia Tech for the first time since a 28-22 victory in 2012. It will also be the first trip to Tallahassee for the Hokies since 2008, when they lost 30-20.

Both schools have combined to win eight ACC championships since Virginia Tech joined the league in 2004.

In addition to the Labor Day game, the Seminoles will host Samford on Sept. 8 and Northern Illinois on Sept. 22. FSU defeated Samford 59-6 in 2010 to begin the Jimbo Fisher era, and the Seminoles beat Northern Illinois 31-10 in the 2013 Orange Bowl.

FSU travels to Notre Dame on Nov. 10 and will conclude the regular season against rival Florida on the Saturday after Thanksgiving.
