TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State wide receiver Da'Vante Phillips has been suspended from the team after his arrest on five felony charges.
The junior from Miami was booked into the Leon County jail early Friday on four counts of fraud and one count of grand theft.
Florida State released a statement Friday announcing that head coach Jimbo Fisher has suspended Phillips indefinitely "in accordance with athletic department policy."
According to a Florida State University police probable cause affidavit, Phillips purchased four money orders worth $485.89 in January but then "used white out or another substance" and altered the amount to $700 each.
Florida State's depth at receiver is a concern for the Seminoles, who only have six scholarship players at the position without Phillips.
Phillips attended Miami Central Senior High School before signing with the Seminoles in 2015. He has played in 19 games each of the last two seasons but only has five catches.
The Seminoles, ranked No. 3 in the preseason coaches' poll, open the season Sept. 2 against top-ranked Alabama in Atlanta.
