Miami Central Senior High School celebrates recognition as national football champs

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Students and staff celebrated at Miami Central Senior High School Wednesday, honoring the school’s football team, as they were recognized as national champions by a high school football website.

NationalHSFB.com recognized the team as number one in the country, after their second “four-peat” as state champions.

“Nobody has a number-one trophy, you have the first one ever created by NationalHSFB.com and for sure it will not be the last,” Joe Maimone, a representative for the website, said.

The Rockets put up a perfect 14-0 record this season, taking down powerhouses like IMG Academy and American Heritage, along with topping their rival Miami Northwestern twice, giving them their fourth state championship in a row.

“It’s an amazing feeling,” senior Rueben Bain said. “It keeps our name alive forever.”

“We got kids in the neighborhood that look up to us, we’ve got to be great role models for those guys and this is a place they can call home,” senior Keyone Jenkins said.

The four-peat is even more impressive, because it came in Jube Joseph’s first year as head coach, after taking over for legendary coach Roland Smith when he moved to the University of Miami.

“At the end of the day, anything is possible and these kids showed if they put their minds to what they wanted to, they could be able to play and dominate and be successful on the field,” Joseph said.

Nine senior players also signed letters of intent to play football for several Division I teams.
