MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — As part of agreements with FIFA, all stadiums being used for the World Cup will have to remove naming rights and certain sponsor logos before play begins.
In South Florida, Hard Rock Stadium will be known as “Miami Stadium” during the tournament’s seven games.
New signage was visible around the stadium Wednesday, with names such as Hard Rock and other branding removed. For the next month-plus, those areas will feature World Cup logos and FIFA tournament branding instead.
The opening game at Miami Stadium is scheduled for June 15, with the seventh and final match set for July 18.
The removal of stadium naming rights and sponsor logos is meant to protect the brands and sponsors that pay tens of millions of dollars for deals with FIFA.
