MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — Tom Garfinkel is stepping away from his day-to-day duties as president and CEO of the Miami Dolphins after 13 years with the organization, the team confirmed Tuesday.
The team announced that Garfinkel will remain with the Dolphins and Hard Rock Stadium as vice chairman and will continue as managing partner of the Formula 1 Crypto.com Miami Grand Prix.
The move comes as Dolphins owner Stephen Ross launches Ross Sports & Entertainment, a new entity that will oversee the Dolphins, Hard Rock Stadium, the Miami Grand Prix, the Miami Open tennis tournament and Precision Drive Club.
Ross named Daniel Sillman CEO of Ross Sports & Entertainment. Sillman has worked closely with Ross on several major business initiatives and will oversee the organization’s executive leadership team, as well as football operations.
“Tom has had one of the most impactful executive tenures in professional sports history,” Ross said. “The greatest leaders don’t just build successful organizations; they build organizations positioned to thrive long after they move on.”
Ross said Garfinkel created a strong foundation for the organization’s future and will continue to serve as a trusted adviser.
During Garfinkel’s tenure, the Dolphins expanded beyond an NFL franchise into a larger sports and entertainment operation.
The organization said revenues increased by more than 400% under his leadership, while the team completed a $550 million privately funded renovation of Hard Rock Stadium and developed the $135 million Baptist Health Training Complex.
Garfinkel also helped bring Formula 1 racing to Miami, establish the Miami Open at Hard Rock Stadium and secure major events, including Super Bowl LIV, College Football Playoff championship games and 2026 FIFA World Cup matches.
“I love the Dolphins and the people here, but after 13 years it was just the right time for me to make this decision,” Garfinkel said in a news release. “The business has never been in a better place and the team of people we have here is second to none in sports.”
Garfinkel thanked Ross, Dolphins fans and the South Florida community, adding that he is confident in the organization’s future under Sillman’s leadership.
Sillman said he was honored to take on the role and praised the work done by Garfinkel and the leadership team.
