MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — The Miami Dolphins released their first unofficial depth chart of the 2026 season Tuesday as they prepare to face the Washington Commanders in their preseason opener Friday.

The depth chart is not set in stone. Teams are required by the NFL to release one, and the Dolphins have several position battles that will continue throughout the preseason.

Here are some of the biggest takeaways:

Caleb Douglas listed as starting wide receiver

Rookie Caleb Douglas is listed as a starting wide receiver after a strong training camp. Despite having a few drops throughout camp, the late third-round pick has shown explosiveness and toughness across the middle while emerging as a dependable target for quarterback Malik Willis.

Douglas has consistently made plays during camp and is currently listed ahead of veterans Tutu Atwell, Terrace Marshall Jr. and Theo Wease Jr.

Douglas joins Malik Washington as a starting receiver. Washington has also flashed big-play potential and has often been called “WR1″ throughout camp.

Trey Moore earns starting linebacker spot

Rookie Trey Moore, a fourth-round pick out of Texas, is listed as a first-team inside linebacker and the third linebacker in Miami’s base 4-3 defense.

Moore was selected 130th overall and brings versatility after playing as an edge rusher in college. He ran a 4.54-second 40-yard dash at the NFL scouting combine and has been praised for his explosiveness, leverage and pass-rushing ability.

While Moore is listed as a starter, the depth chart also lists Tyrel Dodson or Jacob Rodriguez at inside linebacker.

Rodriguez, Miami’s second-round pick out of Texas Tech, is competing with Dodson for the starting Mike linebacker role. Rodriguez’s position is different from Moore’s, making this another position battle to monitor during the preseason.

Chris Johnson listed as starting nickel corner

First-round cornerback Chris Johnson is listed as the starting nickel corner, with Jason Marshall Jr. and JuJu Brents listed on the outside.

Johnson’s placement inside is notable as Miami continues to determine how its young secondary will take shape.

Kenneth Grant, Jordan Phillips battling it out at second defensive tackle spot

The Dolphins also have a notable competition at defensive tackle, with Kenneth Grant listed as the starter alongside Jordan Phillips.

Grant, a first-round pick in 2026, is looking to prove he can live up to his draft status and play next to Zach Sieler.

RB2 battle: Jaylen Wright ahead of Ollie Gordon II

As of Tuesday, running back Jaylen Wright is listed as the Dolphins’ No. 2 running back ahead of rookie Ollie Gordon II. De’Von Achane is the clear-cut No. 1 running back.

Gordon has shown good power and burst throughout camp but has a tendency to run a little high, while Wright has displayed solid pass-catching ability.

Wright received praise from center Aaron Brewer during training camp.

“You can see he’s matured much more,” said Brewer. “He’s trying to grind. He’s trying to make a name for himself.”

Malik Washington handling return duties

Washington is listed as Miami’s starting kick and punt returner.

That comes after special teams coordinator Chris Tabor indicated he plans to use Washington whenever possible. Washington has already shown his big-play ability as a receiver and now could have an expanded role on special teams.

Again, the depth chart is only a snapshot of where things stand entering the preseason. Miami’s first preseason game Friday against Washington will provide another opportunity for players competing for starting jobs and roster spots to make their case.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
