MIAMI — Four-time NBA champion Klay Thompson is set to be introduced Tuesday as the Miami Heat’s newest star after officially joining the team following a buyout with the Dallas Mavericks.
The introductory press conference is set for 3 p.m.
The 36-year-old sharpshooting forward cleared waivers and signed with Miami this past weekend after spending the past two seasons in Dallas.
Thompson will bring his elite three-point shooting to a Heat team that also added Giannis Antetokounmpo, Bobby Portis and Tim Hardaway Jr. this offseason.
Heat president Pat Riley previously called Thompson one of the most iconic players ever to suit up in the NBA.
Thompson spent the first 13 seasons of his career with the Golden State Warriors, winning four championships alongside fellow “Splash Brother” Stephen Curry and earning five All-Star selections.
Now, Thompson is looking forward to a new chapter in Miami.
“My joints just feel good being out here with this climate,” Thompson said in a social media post by the Heat. “I can’t wait to meet my staff and my coworkers.”
He also said he has been enjoying Miami’s food and getting settled into the city.
“I was always here in passing, so it’s nice to be planted, just being able to experience a great place,” Thompson added.
Thompson brings one of the most impressive three-point resumes in NBA history. He has nine career games with at least 10 made three-pointers, second only to Curry’s 28.
He is also one of just two players in NBA history to make at least 10 threes in a playoff game, highlighted by his legendary 2016 Game 6 performance against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Thompson also owns the NBA record for most three-pointers made in a single game, knocking down 14 against the Chicago Bulls in 2018.
The majority of Miami’s games this season, at least 68, will be airing on Local 10 News.
