MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — The Miami Dolphins traded wide receiver Tutu Atwell back to the Los Angeles Rams on Thursday in exchange for running back Jarquez Hunter, pending physicals.
Atwell, 26, had signed a one-year deal with Miami this offseason after spending his first five NFL seasons with the Rams.
He was expected to compete for a bigger role with the Dolphins, but the team’s three drafted rookies, Caleb Douglas, Chris Bell and Kevin Coleman Jr., appeared to move ahead of him on the depth chart, making Atwell, who is a South Florida native, expendable.
Hunter, 23, joins a running back room that consists of De’Von Achane, Ollie Gordon II and Jaylen Wright.
Hunter played college football at Auburn, where he rushed for 3,371 yards and 25 touchdowns while averaging 6.3 yards per carry. He also caught 68 passes for 558 yards and four touchdowns.
The Rams selected him in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, but he appeared in only five games as a rookie, playing 22 snaps, all on special teams.
It is not immediately known if Hunter will see playing time in Miami’s final preseason game when the Atlanta Falcons visit Hard Rock Stadium and quarterback Tua Tagovailoa makes his return to Hard Rock Stadium on Friday night.
