MIAMI - The Marlins confirmed Saturday they have a signed agreement with the Derek Jeter group to purchase the team. The agreement was signed Friday night, according to Marlins president David Samson.
Jeter would run the baseball operations in a group led by venture capitalist Bruce Sherman. It was reported Friday that Michael Jordan would also be one of the 16 investors involved in the agreement.
Samson, who confirmed the purchase price of $1.2 billion, said Saturday that the deal will be voted on in September and if passed it would be signed in October.
Jorge Mas will not be part of the Jeter group, Samson also confirmed on Saturday.
