Report: Heat's McGruder out 3-6 months

MIAMI – Less than a week before the start of the regular season, it appears the Miami Heat are already dealing with a significant injury to a key player.

According to a report from Yahoo! Sports, Heat guard Rodney McGruder will likely need surgery on a stress fracture in his leg and miss 3-6 months.

McGruder was a key contributor for Miami as a rookie last season playing 78 games, including 65 starts.  He averaged 6 points and 3 rebounds per game, but more importantly, he was a key defensive player for the Heat.  McGruder was expected to be a key part of the rotation again this season, likely coming off the bench.

The Heat have not commented on the report or McGruder’s injury status.  He played in Wednesday night’s preseason win over Washington, and it is not clear when the injury occurred.
