Dolphins linebacker Timmons wants to play immediately after going AWOL

Report: Timmons located at Los Angeles International Airport

DAVIE, Fla. – A day after going AWOL and missing the Dolphins season opener in Los Angeles, linebacker Lawrence Timmons reportedly wants to return and play immediately.

Timmons went missing the night before the Dolphins defeated the Chargers 19-17 on Sunday. TMZ reports the Dolphins filed a missing person report with police when he was unable to be located.

According to the report, Timmons was eventually found at the airport, waiting to board a flight to Pennsylvania to see his young baby.

A source told ESPN's Adam Schefter that Timmons is "doing much better [Monday] and wants to resume playing immediately."

Miami's next game is Sunday on the road against the New York Jets.

However, Schefter says the Dolphins are unsure of Timmons' issue and will meet with doctors to figure how what exactly is wrong.

The veteran joined the Dolphins this offseason, signing a two-year, $10 million contract after spending the previous 10 seasons in Pittsburgh.
