AT&T outage interferes with 911 calls nationwide

After about an hour of 911 outage, AT&T resolves issue about 10:30 p.m.

MIAMI BEACH ā€“ Due to a nationwide AT&T outage that was interfering with calls made to 911 call centers, local authorities were asking callers confronted with this problem on Wednesday night to use their department's non-emergency lines.

AT&T released a statement saying they were aware of an "issue affecting some calls to 911 for wireless customers" and they were working to resolve it.Ā 

"We apologize to those affected," the statement said.Ā 

The issue was resolved about 10:30 p.m., according to AT&T. Ā The company didn't provide an explanation or details about the cause of the outage.Ā 

TheĀ Federal Communications Commission has fined T-MobileĀ and other providers for 911 outages charging that the incidents could have been prevented if the providers would have installed proper safeguards.Ā
