The Miami Dolphins have hired San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel as their new coach, making him the first minority candidate to get hired so far this offseason.

The NFL has taken several steps to improve diversity among leadership positions, yet Mike Tomlin is the only Black head coach after Brian Flores and David Culley were fired this week.

Back-to-back winning seasons were not enough for Brian Flores to keep his job as coach of the Miami Dolphins.

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – Ryan Fitzpatrick threw two touchdown passes while starting in place of the injured Tua Tagovailoa and the Miami Dolphins kept the New York Jets winless with a 20-3 victory Sunday. Tagovailoa was inactive with a left thumb injury, so Fitzpatrick stepped in against one of his many former teams. Darnold was intercepted twice and the Jets (0-11) twice couldn’t take advantage of takeaways by the defense. Fitzpatrick drove the Dolphins down the field and sealed the win with a 7-yard touchdown toss to Shaheen to make it 20-3 with 6:54 left. Gase challenged the call — and TV replays seemed to support the Jets’ argument — but it was upheld and the Dolphins scored four plays later.

The New York Jets agreed Sunday night to trade the veteran linebacker to the Pittsburgh Steeler. The Jets also are sending a 2022 seventh-round draft pick to the Steelers for Pittsburgh's 2022 fifth-rounder. The deal moves Williamson from the winless Jets, who are 0-8 after a 35-9 loss at Kansas City, to the 7-0 Steelers, the league's only undefeated team after a 28-24 win at Baltimore. Bell signed a few days later with Kansas City and ran for 7 yards on six carries against his former team Sunday. Williamson was signed by the Jets to a three-year, $22.5 million contract in 2018 and quickly established himself as a key playmaker.

– Patrick Mahomes did just about everything for the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. On the second, Mahomes claimed to see Hill “a little banged up” and decided to carry him — horse-and-jockey style — back to the Kansas City sideline. While the Jets answered with the first of three first-half field goals, the Chiefs kept scoring touchdowns. Mahomes hit Robinson from 26 yards out for his fourth TD pass, giving Kansas City a 28-9 lead late in the third quarter. The Dolphins have 5 appearances with two wins while the Jets have one appearance and one win. Adam Gase is now the Jets head coach and he would have loved to get a win against his former team. The Jets had a better running game with a total of 82 rushing yards between their two running backs.
