The Broward Sheriff’s Office has offered to pay for the funeral of 65-year-old Lurean Wheaton, who was killed last week when a Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue helicopter crashed into her apartment building in Pompano Beach, but her family has declined the agency’s offer, Local 10 News learned Wednesday.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A fishing trip turned dangerous for four people who survived at sea after their boat capsized on Tuesday off Broward County. Eventually, another wave turned the vessel upside down near Hugh Taylor Birch State Park in Fort Lauderdale. Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Stephen Gollan said they were able to survive because they had a working cell phone and life vests. Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue and Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue boats responded. As soon as they made it to shore, Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue personnel rushed Rios’ father to the hospital.
BSO: Man arrested in fatal street race had 5-year-old child in car
DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. – A man who was involved in a street race with a motorcyclist that ended with the motorcyclist losing his life had a 5-year-old child in his car at the time, authorities confirmed this week. The fatal crash occurred on Jan. 30 in the area of Southwest 10th Street, just west of Waterways Boulevard in Deerfield Beach. According to Broward Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Miranda Grossman, the motorcyclist was heading west in the right turn only lane at a high rate of speed. AdDetectives determined that Seneca, who they believe was racing the motorcyclist, was directly behind the victim in a white Dodge Charger Hellcat. He was booked into the Broward County Main Jail on Tuesday and has since been released on bond.
BSO investigating woman found shot outside Dania Beach apartments
DANIA BEACH, Fla. – A woman was found shot outside of an apartment complex Saturday night in Dania Beach, according to Broward Sheriff’s Office homicide detectives. Shortly before 10:30 p.m., deputies responded to 321 E. Sheridan Street in reference to someone hearing gunshots. Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue responded and transported the victim to Memorial Regional Hospital where she later died. The woman has been identified and notification of next of kin is pending, according to BSO. Worker injured when front end loader falls from fourth floor of building in Hallandale Beach
HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – A worker was injured Friday morning when a front end loader fell from the fourth floor of a building that is under construction in Hallandale Beach, authorities confirmed. Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Michael Kane said the operator was inside the front end loader when the incident occurred. Building where front end loader fell from. According to Kane, the worker, who is in his 30s, fell about 40 feet after a section of the building collapsed.
4 injured in Dania Beach crash involving BSO patrol car, Broward County Transit bus
DANIA BEACH, Fla. – A Broward Sheriff’s Office deputy and three others were taken to a hospital Monday night after being involved in a three-vehicle collision in Dania Beach, authorities said. The crash occurred around 9:45 p.m. near the 800 block of East Dania Beach Boulevard. According to BSO spokeswoman Gerdy St. Louis, a marked BSO patrol car, a green Honda and a Broward County Transit bus were involved in the crash. BSO: Toddler’s family located after she was found alone in parking lot
LAUDERDALE LAKES, Fla. – The Broward Sheriff’s Office has located the mother and grandmother of a young girl who was found alone Tuesday morning in the parking lot of an apartment complex in Lauderdale Lakes, authorities confirmed. According to BSO spokeswoman Gerdy St. Louis, the toddler was found shortly before 3 a.m. at the Pacific Point Place complex at 3700 Pacific Point Place. The Broward Sheriff's Office found this child the morning of Sept. 1 in Lauderdale Lakes. Small plane lands upside down in the Everglades
WEST BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. A single-engine Cessna 172 made an emergency landing early Thursday afternoon in the Everglades, authorities confirmed. A student and instructor from Wayman Aviation out of North Perry Airport were in the plane that was in the midst of a training flight. A Cessna 172 took off from North Perry Airport around 10:30 this morning. Its final stop was a little less than 10 miles southeast of Mile Marker 35 on Alligator Alley in West Broward. The plane remains in the Everglades as the FAA investigates the incident and the National Transportation Safety Board has also been notified.
