Braves general manager Alex Anthopoulos said Fried has a left-side muscle spasm in his lumbar spine. Anthopoulos said he hopes Fried can return from the IL as soon as he is eligible on Sept. 16. Anthopoulos said he hopes Culberson can be added to the team's camp at its alternate training site at Triple-A Gwinnett.

Braves Manager Brian Snitker said the 30-year-old was "alert" and "aware" in the hospital. In Saturday's game against the Washington Nationals, Culberson came up to bat as a pinch hitter in the seventh inning with two men on and the game tied 1-1. On the first pitch, Culberson squared up to bunt and Fernando Rodney threw a fastball that nailed Culberson in the right cheek. Afterward, the Braves scored four more runs in the seventh inning and won the game 10-1, clinching a postseason berth.
Donaldson's HR helps Keuchel, Braves beat Marlins
The Braves are 10-2 against the Marlins this season and 24-7 the past two seasons. Miami's Jorge Alfaro led off the ninth with an infield hit off Braves closer Luke Jackson. He helped the Braves hit a franchise-record 143 homers before the All-Star break. The Braves are 10-2 in decisive games of three-game series this season, including five straight wins, and 7-0 in those decisive games at home. Braves: Keuchel, RHP Julio Teheran (5-6, 3.75) and RHP Mike Soroka (9-1, 2.42) will be Atlanta's starters for their three-game series at San Diego, beginning on Friday.
