Mayor shames contractor for warning public about ‘high levels of bacteria’ in Fort Lauderdale waterways
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – At the beginning of the year, given all the sewage spills in Fort Lauderdale last year, the city contacted Miami Waterkeeper, a nonprofit organization, to report on the city’s recreational water quality. Miami Waterkeeper tests for the Enterococcus, which is a fecal indicator bacteria associated with wastewater. On Jan. 14, Miami Waterkeeper warned the public there were high levels of bacteria at Lake Sylvia, Himmarshee Canal, Tarpon River, and Sweeting Park. NYE in Broward includes Guitar’s light show, Fort Lauderdale’s virtual party
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Some Broward County residents will be able to see a light display at The Guitar Hotel at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino from a distance during the New Year’s Eve countdown in Hollywood. Fort Lauderdale is hosting a virtual celebration in partnership with The Orange Bowl. The hour-production will include live music by the Shane Duncan Band and a short fireworks display, along with the annual anchor drop from the Venice of America. “It’s just a sampling of fireworks ... the idea is to just once again symbolize the excitement that we have going here in our community,” Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean J. Trantalis said. Restaurants and bars at Las Olas Boulevard are preparing for the NYE celebrations with special menus and drinks.
Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show to sail through pandemic with new safety rules
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Local officials decided the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show — an event that attracted more than 100,000 people last year — will be held this year as planned with new coronavirus safety rules.
