Trump commutes Kodak Black’s sentence on federal weapons charges
The White House announced Trump granted a commutation of the rapper’s sentence. Darrell Scott and Rabbi Schneur Kaplan, of Fort Lauderdale, according to the White House. The White House also recognized the rapper’s philanthropic efforts to benefit children in need and struggling restaurants in Broward. Rapper Kodak BlackTrump’s clemency applied to the federal charges and it didn’t erase the conviction. Kodak Black is a free man after walking out of a Broward County jail early Saturday.

Black had already been facing sexual assault charges in South Carolina after a teen told her high-school nurse that Black had ripped off her clothes, bit her, and violently raped her in a hotel room in 2016. But that open case meant the rapper was barred from buying weapons. Ahead of his sentencing, Black had faced up to ten years in prison. Cohen argued Black should have faced 37 to 44 months in prison instead.
