EMBRACE GIRLS FOUNDATION

During this time of year, kids are told a man in a big red suit will make all their Christmas wishes come true. However, as Local 10 discovered, a very generous man, not from the North Pole, but from right here in South Florida, is making a difference for dozens of deserving girls.

On Monday, in recognition of International Day of the Girl and National Hispanic Heritage Month, the Embrace Girls Foundation hosted a tea party in honor of Florida developers Joseph and Alexandra Milton.

David and Tamela Mann, stars of Tyler Perry’s popular television show “Meet the Browns,” will be making a stop in South Florida on Aug. 8 for a special one-night show at the Casino at Dania Beach.

Embrace Girls Foundation honored female staff members of the Miami Gardens police department and Jackson Health Systems for their dedication during the coronavirus pandemic.

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – The typical Valentine’s Day gifts are flowers and candies. His name is Steven Gurowitz, founder of the design firm Interiors by Steven G. Last December, Local 10 introduced Gurowitz to the Embrace Girls Foundation, a nonprofit which provides girl-centric, educational programs at Miami-Dade county schools. Founder and CEO of the organization, Velma Lawrence, hosted a special holiday party for two dozen girls who had achieved academic excellence. Last Saturday, Gurowitz and his team arrived at The Women’s Park in Southwest Miami-Dade with 16 brand new, customized bikes. It was a surprise for the girls who thought they were there for a Valentine’s Day Family Picnic.

MIRAMAR AFRICA UMOJA The Spirit of Togetherness, a story of the African continent and its unbreakable spirit, is set to arrive in South Florida for its one and only American appearance Tuesday, February 25th through Sunday, March 1st 2020 at the Miramar Cultural Center in celebration of Black History Month. Africa Umoja also celebrates South Africas freedom and democracy through a tribute to Nelson Mandela. The Miramar Cultural Arts Center is located at 2400 Civic Center Place, Miramar, Florida 33025. 4 P.M., the Miramar Cultural Center will be transformed into the Africa Umoja Family Fun Village featuring the Island Boys Seafood Trucks Festival and a host of free family friendly vendors and activities.
