The incident unfolded in the area of Northwest 104th Street and Fifth Avenue. “It sounded like very loud popping noises,” Jonathan Jimenez, who lives next door to where the fire occurred, said. Hollywood pastor believes church fire was intentionally set
HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – Authorities are investigating a fire that broke out overnight at a church in Hollywood. “We’ll come together and fix this and just praise God for his goodness,” Pastor Justin Severson said. Severson told Local 10 News that he got a call from Hollywood police around 1:30 a.m. Thursday, saying his church, the Church of Jesus Christ, had caught fire. The pastor said he’s grateful someone passing by the church noticed the fire and called 911 right away, so firefighters were able to quickly contain the fire to the entrance of the church. “We’ve had a case before were somebody threw a (Molotov) cocktail at the window, so yes, it’s under investigation,” he said.

PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. – A fire that broke out Tuesday morning at a townhouse in Pembroke Pines — and then reignited hours later — is believed to have been caused by an electrical problem, authorities said. The 2,000-acre (809-hectare) fire in Santa Rosa County, located just east of Pensacola, prompted the evacuation of 1,100 homes Wednesday. Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried said in a news conference Thursday afternoon that fire officials are working around the clock to contain the wildfires. Rich Aloy, with the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office, was patrolling Wednesday when he and other deputies rescued an older couple trapped by a burning power line. The Santa Rosa County fire began Monday when a prescribed burn by a private contractor got out of control, Fried said. Fire erupts inside fourth-floor apartment unit in Naranja
NARANJA, Fla. – A fire erupted Wednesday morning inside a fourth-floor apartment unit in Naranja, authorities confirmed. According to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue spokeswoman Erika Benitez, firefighters arrived at the scene to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the unit. Sky 10 was above the scene shortly after 10 a.m. as the fire appeared to have been extinguished. A window was blown out and the exterior wall around the window was blackened by the smoke and flames. According to Benitez, the apartment building was evacuated and the Red Cross has been requested to provide temporary assistance to the affected families.
More than 60 bushfires are burning in Australia
Fire officials are warning of "catastrophic fire danger" as firefighters battle dozens of blazes raging across the Australian state of New South Wales. There were 64 fires burning as of early Monday, the New South Wales Rural Fire Service said in a tweet, with 40 yet to be contained. According to Sue Ashton, president of the Koala Hospital Port Macquarie, an estimated 350 koalas are feared dead in the bushfires. An estimated 500 to 600 koalas live on the Lake Innes Nature Reserve in New South Wales, Ashton said, and two-thirds of the habitat has already burned. The koala population of New South Wales dropped below 20,000 because of excessive tree-clearing, the World Wildlife Fund said in March.

Police locate woman wanted for questioning in Dollar Tree fire
CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – Coral Springs police have located a woman who was wanted for questioning in a fire at a Dollar Tree, police said on Wednesday. The fire was reported about 12:30 p.m. April 15 at the Dollar Tree at 11530 W. Sample Road. Police said the fire started in aisle 4 of the store, and flames could be seen on surveillance video reaching above the top of the shelves. The woman was captured on surveillance video inside the store. Authorities said the cause of fire remains under investigation, but it appears to be suspicious.
