Cocoa Beach residents heed Hurricane Dorian's warnings

COCOA BEACH, Fla. - Several outer rain bands tied to slow-moving Hurricane Dorian pushed through Florida's Space Coast, the 72-mile coastline known for its beaches and space-age attractions. Weather conditions in the Space Coast were deteriorating Monday night, and residents from the popular coastal community were rushing to leave. Cocoa Beach resident Josh Waser said he feared he and his family were already up against the clock. He knew the storm's fury left at least five people dead, dozens injured and flooded homes in the Bahamas. To the west of Cocoa Beach, homes in low-lying areas border the Indian River, which has spilled its banks in past storms.

Nashville police officer killed after teen slams car into his

(CNN) - A Tennessee police officer was killed Thursday when his car was "violently struck" on the driver's side by a teen driver who was driving without a license, the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department said. Central Precinct Officer John Anderson, 28, had been with the department for four years and had become a father a little over a year ago. When he reached an intersection, Anderson's police car was hit by the teen's 2016 Ford Fusion, and the officer died at the scene. That officer radioed in the car's location and license plate and noticed the car turn onto the street where the crash occurred. I am definitely not feeling lost as I begin this journey of serving the public by becoming a Metro Nashville police officer," he had written, according to police.
