Jets' Gore out with bruised lung, playing future uncertain
The 37-year-old New York Jets running back has a bruised lung that coach Adam Gase said Monday will keep Gore out of the season finale at New England on Sunday. It was originally called a chest injury by the team after Gore left, but tests revealed the lung contusion. Gore has played in 240 games, a record for NFL running backs, over 16 seasons. Gore signed a one-year deal worth $1.05 million with the Jets last May and will be a free agent in the offseason. With Gore sidelined for the finale, the Jets will use La'Mical Perine, Ty Johnson and Josh Adams against the Patriots.
Jets' Gase says it was 'best that we part ways' with Bell
The New York Jets have surprisingly released Bell, ending a disappointing tenure after less than two full seasons. (AP Photo/David Dermer, File)NEW YORK – The New York Jets' decision to move on from Le'Veon Bell was a stunner. The Jets also gave Bell and his agent permission to explore trades on their ends, but there were no takers. “Yeah, I mean, the first game he played a half and got injured, and then he played this last game,” Gase said. “Nobody thought that was the reason why it’s going the way it’s going,” Gase said.
49ers blast Jets 31-13, but lose Garoppolo, Bosa, Mostert
Still, short-handed San Francisco had enough to beat the inept New York Jets. Defensive end Nick Bosa and defensive tackle Solomon Thomas were both carted off the field two plays apart with left knee injuries in the first quarter. Two plays later, Thomas was carted off — also with a left knee injury — after an 8-yard reception by Chris Hogan. San Francisco ended the 14-play possession with an 18-yard catch by Jordan Reed for the first of his two TD grabs. ... San Francisco wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, a first-round draft pick, had two catches for 21 yards in his NFL debut.
Allen tops 300 yards passing in Bills' 27-17 win over Jets
(AP Photo/Jeffrey T. Barnes)ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. – Josh Allen led three consecutive first-half touchdown drives, and the Buffalo Bills overcame their own sloppiness and injuries to two starting linebackers in a 27-17 season-opening win over the New York Jets on Sunday. Allen finished 33 of 46 for 312 yards in becoming Buffalo's first player to top 300 yards since Tyrod Taylor had 329 in a 34-31 overtime loss to Miami on Dec. 24, 2016. Allen also scored on a 2-yard run, though his fumbles proved costly with both coming inside Jets territory. After driving the Bills on three consecutive scoring drives, Allen closed the first half by fumbling at the Jets 12. The Jets finished the game without starting running back Le’Veon Bell, who was ruled out in the second half due to a hamstring injury.
South Africa edges past Wales to reach third Rugby World Cup final
(CNN) - South Africa defeated Wales 19-16 in a pulsating Rugby World Cup encounter to reach its third final. To have so many people from South Africa come and support us, it means the world to us. England's shock victory over the All Blacks on Saturday means there will be a repeat of the 2007 final when South Africa won its second World Cup. If Ramaphosa's prediction rings true, South Africa, which won its first World Cup on home soil in 1995, would equal New Zealand's record of three titles. South Africa looked to control proceedings with its big forward pack throughout the match and enjoyed dominance in the scrum and maul.
