DANIA BEACH, Fla. – The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating after a pilot made a forced landing Tuesday afternoon on a beach in Broward County. The single-engine Cessna 172 took off from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport at 2:03 p.m. and landed on the sand 10 minutes later in Dania Beach. Worker injured when front end loader falls from fourth floor of building in Hallandale Beach
HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – A worker was injured Friday morning when a front end loader fell from the fourth floor of a building that is under construction in Hallandale Beach, authorities confirmed. Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Michael Kane said the operator was inside the front end loader when the incident occurred. Building where front end loader fell from. 1-year-old boy dies after being ejected from truck in I-75 crash
WEST BROWARD, Fla. – A 1-year-old boy who was ejected after a pick-up truck overturned on Interstate 75 was found dead Thursday. According to a press release from the FHP, the boy was not in a child restraint and no one in the vehicle was wearing a seat belt. “Some of the deputies actually went into the canal searching for the missing child,” Reyes said. It’s a race against time.”Around 5:45 p.m., it was no longer a search and rescue mission, but a recovery mission. “We conducted a thorough search and we were able to find the deceased body of the 1-year-old male,” Reyes said.
1 person dead in Dania Beach apartment fire
DANIA BEACH, Fla. – One person is dead after a late afternoon fire inside a Dania Beach apartment complex. When firefighters arrived at the single-story apartment complex, heavy, dark smoke was pouring out of the front and the rear of the building, according to Kane. The fire itself wasn’t that big, but it did produce a lot of smoke, he said. Kane said one person was found dead in the back of the apartment. People on the scene told Local 10 that the man who died was in his 40s and was a nice person who they said had lived in the apartment complex for awhile.
House fire displaces Lauderdale Lakes family
LAUDERDALE LAKES, Fla. – Marlene Peart said her husband saw heavy smoke coming from the roof of their home early Tuesday morning in Lauderdale Lakes. It was after midnight, and aside from Peart and her husband, there were also four other adults and a child living in the home. Marlene Peart was displaced by a house fire on Tuesday in Broward County. Firefighters responded about 12:10 a.m. to the three-bedroom home along Northwest 45th Avenue at Northwest 43rd Street, southwest of the Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport. Ashes from a home's roof piled up on Tuesday in Lauderdale Lakes.
1 injured in crane collapse at Port Everglades
PORT EVERGLADES, Fla. – One person was injured Tuesday afternoon during a crane collapse at Port Everglades, authorities confirmed. According to Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue spokesman Michael Kane, the 46-year-old victim suffered a non-life-threatening back injury during the incident at 1820 Eller Drive. The man was taken to Broward Health Medical Center. Kane said the crane had been on a flatbed when it tipped over. He said 50 gallons of fuel spilled at the scene, which was contained by the department’s hazmat team.
Multiple people injured after boat slams into rocks in Hollywood
DANIA BEACH, Fla. – Two people are in serious condition after a boat slammed into a Hollywood jetty early Tuesday. All passengers on the boat were taken to Broward Health Medical Center, Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue confirmed. At least two of those people taken were in serious condition, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission spokesman Ronald Washington said. An early morning boating accident injured passengers, sending two to the hospital in serious condition. Officials were able to repair the hull and safely remove the boat early Tuesday evening.
Pedestrians struck by car in Lauderdale Lakes gas station parking lot
LAUDERDALE LAKES, Fla. - Two pedestrians were struck by a car Tuesday afternoon in the parking lot of a gas station in Lauderdale Lakes. The man and woman were standing or walking in the parking lot of the Shell gas station at West Oakland Park Boulevard and State Road 7 when they were struck just after 1 p.m., Broward Sheriff's Office Department of Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Michael Kane said. A woman believed to be in her 40s suffered a head injury and was taken to Broward Health Medical Center in serious condition. A man believed to be in his 20s was taken to Florida Medical Center as a precaution. Broward Sheriff's Office detectives are investigating the cause of the crash.
Students at Cooper City school get sick after ingesting unknown candy substance
COOPER CITY, Fla. - Several students at Renaissance Charter School at Cooper City were hospitalized Friday after ingesting an "unknown product" in candy form, authorities said. Broward Sheriff's Office Department of Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Michael Kane said nine students complained of abdominal pain. It turns out the children ingested an "unknown product" in candy form from a student who brought it from home, Kane said. "We would like to advise all parents to be aware of a THC-laced candy that is packaged nearly identically to a popular sour candy," school spokeswoman Colleen Reynolds said in a statement. Today, a student inadvertently brought this drug, disguised as candy, to school and shared it with friends.

COCONUT CREEK, Fla. - Three people, including a teenage boy, are dead after a car crashed into a retention pond along the Sawgrass Expressway and the northbound entrance ramp to Florida's Turnpike. Just before 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Broward Sheriff's Office Department of Fire Rescue received a call about a car submerged in water. Divers from Coral Springs-Parkland and Margate-Coconut Creek fire departments assisted what BSO Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Michael Kane described as an "aggressive search." The driver, Boby Matthew, 47, and passenger, Dolly Matthew, 41, both of Coral Springs, were pronounced dead at Broward Health North. Steve Manoj, 16, of Coral Springs, also died at the hospital.

Federal Highway reopens after workers strike gas line
DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. - All lanes of Federal Highway were closed Tuesday in Deerfield Beach after construction workers struck a natural gas line. Broward Sheriff's Office Department of Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Michael Kane said construction workers damaged the gas line feeding a nearby shopping plaza just before noon. All southbound and northbound lanes of Federal Highway were closed north of Hillsboro Boulevard while workers capped the leak. The shopping plaza was evacuated as a precaution. Federal Highway reopened once workers capped the leak.
3 tourists remain in South Florida hospital after Bahamas bus crash
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - One of the four tourists injured in a bus crash in the Bahamas and airlifted to a hospital in South Florida has been released. The victims were among 32 Carnival cruise ship passengers taking part in a shore excursion during Monday's crash. Four of the most severely injured victims were flown from the Bahamas to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport aboard a U.S. military C-130 aircraft. This U.S. military C-130 aircraft traveled from the Bahamas to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport with four victims injured in the bus crash. The victims were passengers on the Carnival Ecstasy, which departed from Jacksonville.
13-year-old boy saves family's home from fire in Weston
WESTON, Fla. – A 13-year-old boy saved his Weston home from fire after a blaze broke out in his garage, officials said. The Falcon Cove Middle School student told firefighters that he smelled smoke coming from the garage and told his family to get out of the house, Kane said. While his mother called 911, Lucas used the family's fire extinguisher on the fire, putting out the blaze. "If not for the courage and wherewithal of young Lucas, we could be reporting a tragedy. Kane said the fire was caused by a couple of overheated batteries for a remote-control car.
