Pet owners love their babies, so it’s no surprise that grooming, boarding, walking and daycare businesses are on every corner across South Florida. But one shop is going beyond the money-making and saving lives by adopting out pets.
Animal shelter’s plea: ‘If you can think about adopting come in now’
Dogs are very sensitive to noise. Sometimes Fourth of July fireworks frighten them and they run away. Flora N. Beal, a spokeswoman for the Miami-Dade Animal Services Pet Adoption & Protection Center, said this is why the shelter is over capacity.

After the mauling death of a labradoodle at a northeast Miami-Dade pet boarding facility over the weekend, another pet owner is coming forward to say her dog also suffered injuries at the Pet Poodle Resort and Spa earlier this year.
Woman lived in dirty Hollywood house with 52 cats, dog
A 51-year-old woman was living with 52 cats and a dog in a home in Hollywood. Patricia Vestweber called Jonathan Garcia, of the Black Heart Trappers Transport & Rescue, to ask for help. He said when he walked into her home there were kennels piled up.
Pet adoption campaign reminds families you can’t put price on love
The Miami-Dade County Animal Services Department (Animal Services) reminds families you can’t put a price on love with the launch of the Pets are Priceless holiday pet adoption campaign. Now through Dec. 31 adoption fees at Animal Services’ Pet Adoption and Protection Center and satellite adoption centers are waived for all cats and dogs 4 months and older. You could meet the love of your life this holiday season at the Pet Adoption and Protection Center, located at 3599 NW 79 Ave. in Doral, or any of Animal Services’ satellite adoption centers. Animal Services also offers virtual adoptions.
