Grieving family wants answers, justice after woman struck twice by cars that did not stop
BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. – A South Florida family is morning the loss of a mother who was struck in the street and left for dead. They told Local 10 News’ Sanela Sabovic that they are desperately searching for answers and hoping the people responsible come forward. “She was a very protective sister, very loving sister, very loving daughter,” said Sherban Campbell, Drayton’s sister. Sherban and her mother, Sonja, left ballons and flowers at the crash scene Monday night. “Why this happened, I don’t know, but I know she will be missed very bad,” said Sonja Campbell, Drayton’s mother.

Pilot en route to Key West lands small plane on I-75 in Broward County
BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. – A small plane made an emergency landing Wednesday morning near the southbound lanes of Interstate 75 in western Broward County. The plane landed in the median near Mile Marker 25, beyond the toll plaza. According to a spokeswoman with the Federal Aviation Administration, the single-engine Cessna 210 landed on I-75 near Route 27 around 10:15 a.m.She said two people were on board the plane. Woman says driving into coffee shop was 'accidental'It happened before 3 p.m. Monday, shortly before the establishment was set to close. Grace Berbrick, the owner of Walter’s Coffee Shop, said she knew the elderly woman very well. “She’s very old, she doesn’t need to be driving.”A driver crashed into Walter's in Palmetto Bay on Monday afternoon. No one else inside the coffee shop was injured, according to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.

King Tides leave parts of South Florida flooded
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – King Tides left parts of South Florida flooded Tuesday. City crews are working to build a sea wall along Cordova Road, which is about 2,500 linear feet and roughly 3 feet high. The city has already installed a sea wall along Las Olas and the Isle of Palms Drive. According to city officials, King Tides are tides expected to be within 3 inches of the threshold for inundation in low lying areas. Fort Lauderdale home goes up in flames, displacing 4 roommates
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. Four people have been displaced following a fire inside the Fort Lauderdale home they shared. One woman injured her wrist while trying to escape the flames, but fortunately everyone inside the home made it out safely. When she opened her door, she saw heavy smoke and tried to escape out of a window. When it wouldn't open, she tried breaking the glass and injured her wrist, which was being treated on the scene by first responders later Saturday morning. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

BSO courthouse deputy reassigned after ‘conduct unbecoming’
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A Broward Sheriff's Office courthouse deputy is the focus of an internal investigation after he allegedly told jurors in an upcoming trial to find a defendant guilty. According to a memorandum from the BSO, Deputy Roberto Aspuru has been placed on restricted administrative assignment for "discretion" and "conduct unbecoming an employee." According to Local 10 News reporter Sanela Sabovic, Aspuru was allegedly overheard telling jurors last week to find Garnes guilty of all charges. "It's BSO 101 to learn not to say something like that to potential jurors," defense attorney Richard Rosenbaum said. Aspuru has been placed on paid restricted administrative assignment pending the outcome of an internal affairs investigation.

2 cars catch fire after 18-wheeler strikes powerlines in Pompano Beach
POMPANO BEACH, Fla. - An 18-wheeler struck low-hanging powerlines Monday afternoon in Pompano Beach, authorities confirmed. Pompano Beach Fire Rescue spokeswoman Sandra King said the 18-wheeler dragged the powerlines down, causing two vehicles that were parked in the nearby grass to catch fire. "Then what happened (was) the first transformer pole went down, exploded, and after that, everything else caught on fire." According to King, the powerlines were also hanging on top of a pickup truck, but it did not sustain any damage. She said officials were working to find the owner of the truck to notify him or her about the incident.
