Falling debris damages 2 vehicles on I-595 ramp to I-75

Northbound ramp closed for several hours while crews made repairs

WESTON, Fla. – Debris from a construction site where Interstate 75 meets Interstate 595 damaged two vehicles Monday afternoon, prompting the Florida Highway Patrol to close the interchange.

FHP Sgt. Mark Wysocky said a piece of machinery that rolls back and forth in the construction zone came off its tracks after the support system collapsed.

Two vehicles were damaged by falling debris, but nobody was hurt, Wysocky said.

Florida Department of Transportation spokeswoman Barbara Kelleher said the construction is to connect the I-75 and I-595 Sunpass lanes.

Wysocky said the ramp was expected to be closed for several hours while crews worked to remove the debris and make sure the structure was secure.

Crews completed the work needed to reopen the northbound Sawgrass Expressway ramp about 10 p.m.
