The crash was reported shortly before 1 p.m. on North Service Road off Northwest 42nd Avenue and 21st Street.

Miami-Dade police spokesman Alvaro Zabaleta said the officer and a taxi were driving on North Service Road, when they crashed.

Zabaleta said the impact caused the officer to fall from his motorcycle.

The officer was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center with non-life-threatening injuries. The taxi driver was not injured.

Zabaleta said the officer, who is a 19-year veteran of the Miami-Dade Police Department, was on routine patrol at the time of the crash.
