MONROE COUNTY, Fla. – A Monroe County sheriff's deputy was involved in a rollover crash early Saturday at mile marker 16 on U.S. 1, authorities said.

Monroe County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Becky Herrin said Deputy Daniel Hill was driving north on the highway at 12:30 a.m., returning to his Marathon duty post after taking a prisoner from Marathon to the Stock Island Detention Center.

Hill told authorities that he saw an oncoming vehicle pull into his lane and the vehicle crashed into him. A third vehicle was also struck.

Herrin said Hill's police cruiser flipped over, but Hill was able to get out of the car uninjured. She said no major injuries were reported.

The road was closed for about two hours as the Florida Highway Patrol investigated the circumstances of the crash.

It's unclear whether the other driver will be cited or face charges.

The crash remains under investigation.
