Southbound traffic was being diverted in the area.

According to the Broward Sheriff's Office, Arismendi Olivo, 85, of Lakeland, was heading south in the 1500 block of U.S. 27 about 6:40 a.m. when he lost control of his Dodge Caravan.

Deputies said he veered onto the large grass median from the left thru lane.

Authorities said it appears that Olivo tried to steer his vehicle back toward the roadway, but it rotated clockwise and slid sideways through the median.

Deputies said the minivan rolled over numerous times across both southbound lanes and came to a final rest in the grass shoulder on the west side of the road.

Olivio, who was wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was in the minivan and no other vehicles were involved in the crash.
