Eastbound traffic diverted on West Atlantic Blvd. after car strikes train in Pompano Beach

No injuries reported

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – Broward Sheriff's Office deputies are asking drivers to stay away from West Atlantic Boulevard at the Tri-Rail railroad tracks in Pompano Beach after an Amtrak train was struck by a car Tuesday afternoon.

Sky 10 was above the scene at 1400 W. Atlantic Blvd. as crews were inspecting the Amtrak train, which shares the same railroad tracks as Tri-Rail.

Pompano Beach Fire Rescue officials said the driver of the car was not paying attention and accelerated as the train was passing through.

Authorities said the driver broke through the barrier and struck the side of the train.

No injuries were reported.
