Crane incident prompts Eighth Street closure in West Miami

FPL restores power; officers re-open access to Eighth Street

MIAMI – A construction crane incident in West Miami prompted officers to close Eighth Street for hours on Thursday evening.

According to West Miami Police Department Chief Nelson Abreu, the crane operator was preparing to shut down for the night when the cables of the crane struck the power cables at Southwest 63rd Avenue.

Witnesses said it sounded like an explosion.

Miami Police Department officers closed Southwest Eighth Street from Southwest 62nd to 64th Avenue. FPL workers fixed the power lines and the transformers to restore power.
