MIAMI BEACH, Fla. — A 21-year-old man chased a car, crashed it, and also struck a victim who confronted him on Sunday in Miami Beach’s North Beach neighborhood, according to police.
The drivers of an Infiniti and a Nissan Altima had “been traveling at a high rate of speed and intentionally striking one another,” a police officer wrote, according to a police report.
Rayko Rodriguez was driving the Infiniti when he crashed into a Nissan Altima and struck a passenger who got out of the Nissan to confront him, according to the police officer’s arrest report.
“One of the victims in the Nissan ... is the defendant’s ex-girlfriend,” a police officer wrote, describing her as a juvenile, according to the report.
Police officers met with the driver of the Nissan at about 7:50 a.m. on Sunday along North Bay Road, near West 58 Street, near the La Gorche Country Club, according to the police officer’s report.
A witness who was a passenger in the Nissan gave police officers a video that shows Rodriguez, of Hialeah, “intentionally ramming the victim’s vehicle,” and striking a man, according to the police report.
The victims reported that “the collisions caused both vehicles to come to a stop,” and a passenger exited the Nissan to confront Rodriguez, “who remained inside his vehicle ... accelerated forward ... and struck him with the front portion of his vehicle, including the front bumper and hood,” a police officer wrote.
The victims reported that the man was knocked to the ground, and fearing for his life, ran back to the Nissan, after suffering a left shoulder injury, according to the police officer’s report.
The victims, who all know Rodriguez, said he fled, according to police.
With help from Hialeah police officers, Miami Beach detectives arrested Rodriguez shortly after 1:40 p.m. at East 20th Street, between 11th and 10th avenues in Hialeah, according to the arrest report.
Miami-Dade corrections booked Rodriguez shortly before 5:50 p.m. on Sunday at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center near Doral, according to inmate records.
Rodriguez faced three counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and criminal mischief of a $1,000 or more, records show. His bond was $13,500.
