Car carrying 3 teens crashes into tree in Miramar

Teens airlifted to Memorial Regional Hospital

MIRAMAR, Fla. – Three teenage boys were in a car Tuesday morning that crashed into a tree in Miramar, authorities said.

Miramar Fire Rescue Lt. Jose Gregorisch said the vehicle ran off the road shortly before 10 a.m. and struck a tree in the area of Southwest 160th Avenue and 48th Court.

Miramar police spokeswoman Tania Rues said the two 16-year-old boys and 17-year-old boy were airlifted to Memorial Regional Hospital. She said the driver is in critical condition and the passengers suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Gregorisch said the driver of the vehicle was trapped in the car before authorities arrived and firefighters had to remove the door to get him out.

"Whenever we see a vehicle versus a tree, we know there's going to be a lot of injuries and it's just the way it tends to happen, unfortunately," Gregorisch said.

Bass Creek Road was closed between Dykes Road and Southwest 172nd Avenue after the crash.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
