Roland Steadham

Roland Steadham joined the Local 10 weather team as the weekend morning meteorologist in August 2013.

Roland is the son of a Cuban immigrant and grew up in Hialeah.

"My mom always taught me to be proud of my Latin heritage," he said. "Being in South Florida feels more like home to me than any other place in our country. I love the culture, the people and energy that exists here. As a young boy, the thunderstorms and hurricanes fascinated me. It's what sparked my interest in weather."

Roland graduated from the Mississippi State Broadcast Meteorology program, and has his American Meteorological Society and National Weather Association seals of approval.

He worked in the South Florida market for nearly 13 years, including during the 2004 Atlantic Hurricane Season.

"After more than 25 years in TV, I can honestly say Mother Nature has seasoned me and I feel ready for the job at hand," said Roland.

Roland spent the last seven years in Salt Lake City, Utah.

When he's not watching the weather, Roland is a commercial pilot and flew a twin-engine King Air for the last year.

"The time I've spent going up and down has allowed me to study firsthand how dynamic our atmosphere is," he said. "I've been able to apply the science of meteorology with flying to come to an even greater knowledge of our weather and how it works."

Roland has six children and is excited to return to South Florida.
